LOWELL - George P. Katsaros, 80, a resident of the Christian Hill neighborhood in the Centralville section of Lowell, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 1, 2016 with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Karlene M. (Lannan) Katsaros with whom he celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on September 30th.
Born in Lowell on September 23, 1936, he was a son of the late Steven and Bernice (Kenney) Katsaros.
Mr. Katsaros served with the United States Navy aboard the USS Iowa during the Korean War.
He was a communicant of St. Michael Church and had volunteered for many years for the parish bingo. He was also affiliated with the parish program, Teenager Encounters with Christ.
He was a life member of the East End club and enjoyed golfing.
Prior to his retirement following 40 years of service, George was employed by the New England Telephone Company. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.
In addition to his wife Karlene, he leaves two daughters, Melissa M. Proebsting and her husband Michael of Barrington, IL and Holly M. De Santis and her husband John of Lanexa, VA; five grandchildren, Tatum, Kahlen and Bridget Murphy and Hailey and Chloe Proebsting; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Thomas and Lisa Lannan of Barnstable; several nieces and nephews among whom is Karen Warren of Highland, MI; his best friend of over 65 years, Bill Agnatovich of Lowell, dear friends, Albie Sutcliffe of Pelham, NH and Gerry Coutu of Chelmsford; New England Telephone co-workers, Paul Matson, Paul Shantler, Billy Mueller and Marty Quinn. He was the brother of the late Robert Katsaros.
George's family would like to thank the staff at the Westford House and also the nurses and aides at Lowell General Hospital, M.S. 2, for the compassionate care given to him while under their care.
