George A. “Butch” Drolet, age 75, a lifelong resident of Lowell died Friday, February 17, 2023 at Lowell General Hospital surrounded by his family following many years of illnesses. He was the beloved husband of Barbara T. (Cormier) Drolet, who was his high school sweetheart to whom he was married for 54 years and who was by his side for 58 years.
He was a Valentines Day baby and was born on February 14, 1948 in Lowell, and was a son of the late Alfred Drolet and Dorothy I (Jervah) Drolet. He lived with his grandmother, the late Mary Lescard, whom he was very close to. He attended Lowell High School.
Butch proudly served his country in the United States Army stationed in Germany where he was a cook during the Vietnam War. During his time in the service he earned a Good Conduct Medal, a National Defense Service Medal and an Expert M-14 Badge.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed for many years as a group leader in the wave solder area at Raytheon in Andover, where he worked for 41 years. Earlier in his career he worked for many years as an x-ray technician at Raytheon. He made many great friends at Raytheon through the years and was known throughout the plant as the man with the perfect hair, which Butch took great pride in.
He was a member of IBEW Local 1505 for many years.
Butch enjoyed watching boxing and spent much of his time working around his yard and on his house, which meticulously maintained. His greatest joy however, was spending time in the company of his loving family, especially his adoring grandchildren. His grandson Isaac once wrote an award winning school report on the great courage his grand pops had during his many illnesses.
His family would like to thank Lahey Hospital and Medical Center and Lowell General Hospital Cancer Center for the care and compassion that they gave to Butch.
In addition to his wife, Butch is survived by his two sons, George Drolet and his wife Sandra of Pelham, NH and Keith Drolet of Lowell; his daughter, Michelle Harned of Rindge, NH; three grandchildren, Matthew Drolet, Jack Drolet and Isaac Harned; his brother, Mark McCullough of Lowell; three sisters, Catherine Trigones of Lowell, Patricia Bryand of Keene, NH and Darlene Valkavitch of New Ipswich, NH; two sisters-in-law, Jeanne Kierce and her wife Leanne Sgro of Bridgewater and Catherine Stangroom and her husband James of Dracut; his dear friend, Alan Steward of NH; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Barbara Mellen and the brother-in-law of the late Janet Cormier.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Butch’s Life Celebration at the MCKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell on Wednesday, February 22nd from 4:00 until 7:00pm. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00am at Ste. Marguerite d’Youville Parish in Dracut. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery in Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Butch’s memory to Bishop Reed, The Catholic TV Network, P.O. Box 9196 Watertown, MA 02471.
