George W. Daigle

LOWELL - George W. Daigle, 76, a resident of the Pawtucketville section of Lowell, died Sunday, September 3, 2006 at Saints Medical Center. He was the husband of Doris R. (Lemay) Daigle, with whom he was married for 51 years.
Born in Lowell on March 4, 1930, he was a son of the late Wilfred and Cecile (Morissette) Daigle.
Mr. Daigle was a graduate of Ste. Jeanne D'Arc Parochial School and St. Joseph's Seminary in Bucksport, Maine.
He served with the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
Mr. Daigle had worked until recent illness for Drs. George, Joseph and Paul Montminy at their Lowell office as an optician for 38 years, and as an optical technician at Merrimac Optical Company in Pelham, NH for many years.
A lifelong parishioner of the former Ste. Jeanne d'Arc Parish, he enjoyed singing with the local choirs. He was a member of the former Ste. Jeanne D'Arc Parish Choir, the St. Joseph Shrine Choir, the Chorale Orion, and was a 38 year member of the Franco-American Choir. He was a former member of the Spindle City Singers and the Salem, NH Choral Society.
George loved carpentry, and was well known in Lowell for building Canadian - style gliders. Over 25 years, he made and delivered over 400 of these swings, several of which he donated to local nursing homes. People are enjoying George's swings as far away as Texas and Alabama.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lise D. and Blake W. Wilson of Glenville, NY; three sisters, Fernande Champagne, Agnes Breton and Therese Pelletier and her husband Antoine, all of Lowell; a brother, Brother Donat Daigle, OMI, of Colebrook, NH; two grandsons, Daniel George Wilson and Samuel H. Wilson, both of Glenville, NY; a dear cousin, Louis Rousseau and his wife Pauline of Dracut; his Godchildren, David Pelletier, Charlene Thibeault, Eric Phinney and Gregory Bench; several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
