George A. Chouinard, 88, a resident of Dracut, died Monday morning, April 22, 2013 at a local healthcare facility. He was the loving husband of the late Cecile M. (Frechette) Chouinard with whom he was married for 65 years.
Born in Lowell on May 14, 1924, he was a son of the late Zenon and Alvina (Gagnon) Chouinard.
Mr. Chouinard was a graduate of Lowell High School.
A World War II Veteran, he enlisted with the United States Marines in 1944, was deployed on the aircraft carrier USS Bennington and served in the Pacific Theatre seeing action at Honshu Island, Volcano Islands, Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands and Kyushu Island. He was involved in the occupation of Japan and was honorably discharged in 1946.
George began his career working at L & M Springs in Lowell. He went on to become the supervisor of buildings and grounds for the Dracut Public School System until his retirement in 1992. He was a communicant of Ste. Marguerite D'Youville Parish and was Past President of the St. Therese's Men's Club. George also held membership in The Dracut Lions Club, American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. George enjoyed taking care of his lawn and flowers and was an avid fan of all the Boston sports teams.
George is survived and will be deeply missed by his four children, George A. "Sonny" Chouinard, Jr. and his wife, Cathy of VT, Susan Bliss and her husband, Paul of Hopkinton, NH, Gail Hall and her husband, Michael of Dracut, Lisa Lessard and her husband, Robert of Hudson, NH; his sisters, Doris Noel of Lowell and Julie Doyle of Dracut; a brother-in-law, B. Joseph Tully of Dracut; 12 beloved grandchildren, Nicole, Sarah, Hallie, George, Mark, Seumas, Beathan, Michael, Mistyfaye, Heidi, Joshua and Jessica; 9 great grandchildren, Raymond, Luke, Carmela, Eloise, Sophia, Sean, Sadie, Athaya and Alphonse; many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Irene Lamarre, Rita Lalime, Estelle Bisson, Yvette Trouville, Eileen Richards, Cecile Thibodeau, Dorothy Shannon, Ann Tully and Lucille Lacourse.
