DRACUT - Frank J. Polewarczyk, 96, passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022, with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of May T. (Grondin) Polewarczyk, who passed in 2001.
Born in Clinton, MA, on April 13, 1925, he was a son of the late Alec and Veronica (Kopacz) Polewarczyk.
Frank served with the United States Army during World War II, participating in the Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland Campaigns. He received the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received in Northern France in 1944. He also received the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon with 3 Bronze Battle Stars and the Combat Infantryman Badge. On May 20, 2016, the French Government awarded Frank the French Legion of Honour Medal for his participation in the liberation of France. He was a member of the DAV, Chapter 25 and the Dracut American Legion, Post 315.
Frank worked as a foreman for the JF White Contracting Company in Needham, MA, prior to his retirement in 1982. He was a member of the Laborers Union, Local 22, Boston.
A long time Dracut resident, Frank was a communicant of St. Francis Church. He was also a member of the Dracut Senior Citizens.
Frank is survived by several nieces and nephews, among whom are Joseph and Patricia Polewarczyk, Sandra and Steve Agnatovech, Sharon and Nicholas Hapshe and Gail and Patrick Donnelly: also several grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was predeceased by eight siblings, Antoinette, Veronica, Mary, Bertha, Steve, Joseph, John and Valentin.
Relatives and friends are invited to Frank's Life Celebration on Thursday from 4 until 8 PM at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday morning at 10 AM in St. Francis Church, 115 Wheeler Road, Dracut. Face coverings are required in the Funeral Home and Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
