Francis J. Ouellette OMI

Rev. Francis J. Ouellette, OMI, 83, died on Saturday December 12, 2009 at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington.
Born on August 25, 1926 in Lowell, he was the son of the late Eugene and Mary (Riley) Ouellette.

Fr. Ouellette entered the Oblate novitiate in Tewksbury, in 1945, making his first vows on September 8, 1946. He was Ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Arsene Turquetil, OMI in Washington, DC on June 2, 1952. His first assignment was to Buffalo, NY where he was a teacher from 1952-1970 at Bishop Fallon High School, followed by 3 years of teaching at Bishop Neumann High School. He taught chemistry, math, biology, and physics and was chairman of the science department at both schools. He was the math and science coordinator for 22 high schools in the Diocese of Buffalo.

In 1973, Fr. Ouellette went to the Immaculate Conception Parish in Lowell, MA where he did parish ministry and hospital chaplain work until 1986. From 1986 to 1990 he ministered at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Residence in Tewksbury, as the Assistant Director and Treasurer. He returned to Immaculate Conception Parish in 1990. He continued to minister there, until the present, and even after the Oblates found it necessary to relinquish the parish. He then joined the Oblate community at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Residence in Tewksbury, where he resided until his death.

Over the years, Fr. Ouellette was involved in many organizations including chaplain for Cana Three Christian Family Movement, Federal Parole Advisor, Knights of Columbus, National and State Diocesan Science Association, Phi Delta Kappa/Alpha Psi Chapter member and was an affiliated member of the Western NY Chapter of the American Chemical Society.

Fr. Ouellette was devoted to his family and looked after his elderly aunt and uncle. He was remembered and honored by his students at Bishop Fallon High School in Buffalo, NY even after many years and was held in high regard. He will be remembered fondly by the parishoners of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Lowell.
He is survived by a brother, Eugene Ouellette, Ph.D, of Redlands, CA.
