Longtime resident of Dracut, MA formerly Tyngsboro, MA
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Francis A. O’Brien, fondly known as Frank, Dad and Papa. Frank earned his wings on March 12, 2026 at the age of 88. He passed away peacefully, surrounded and embraced by his wife, daughter, son and two grandchildren who loved him very much.
Frank is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Doris (Duffy) O’Brien; his daughter, Cheryl Doyle of Nashua, NH; his son, Michael O’Brien [Roberta] of Tyngsboro, MA; and his cherished grandchildren, Lauren Doyle and Steven Doyle both of Nashua, NH; Amanda Langill and great-grand children Avayah and Jayden Dube, and he was preceded in death by his loving grandson, Shawn O’Brien of Tyngsboro, MA. In addition, Frank was predeceased by his sister-in-law the late Jackie Ferreira. Frank is also survived by his two loving sister-in-laws, Pat Ducharme and Claire DeMarco along with many nieces and nephews.
He was born on December 16, 1937 in Nashua, NH to Albert Francis O’Brien and Harriet (Evison) O’Brien. Frank lived a full life which was centered around his family. His life was defined by hard work, kindness, humor, and deep faith. He graduated from Lowell High School in 1956. Frank was a proud Veteran. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars in the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army, earning the Army Parachutist Badge, known as "jump wings”. He spent many years as the Shipping and Receiving Manager at Wang Laboratories, Lowell, MA and was a valued employee known for his dedication and integrity.
Beyond his professional life, his greatest pride and joy were his family and friends. He was the best husband and father ever. He never missed an opportunity to go to Sunday breakfast with his wife and son to his favorite Dracut haunts, and never passed up a lunch opportunity whenever out with his daughter after an appointment. The appointments were made around where he would want lunch. He was the true definition of a “Foodie”. He also enjoyed spending time with his wife and their friends going to different restaurants around Dracut and always up to try new ones. He was never too busy to spend time with his wife, daughter, son and grandchildren. Before he became less ambulatory, he would spend every Sunday with the “gang” at his daughter’s house watching and cheering on New England sports teams, especially the New England Patriots. He taught his children the true value of family, faith, integrity, hard work, and love. He will be missed greatly.
In lieu of flowers please consider donating to your local Veterans' organization, an animal shelter or a charity of your choice, in memory of Frank.
A graveside service will be held at the Tyngsboro Cemetery on a later date.
