Loving Husband, Father, Papa & Brother
Floyd S. Newbegin, a Dracut resident, lost his battle to cancer surrounded by family on February 12th, 2025, at the age of 77.
Floyd was born in Lawrence on February 5, 1948, son of late Floyd L. Newbegin and Evelyn (Harrell) Nardo.
He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1965 and Lawrence Technical Trade School in 1967. After graduation, Floyd pursued his career in auto body work in several local body shops, until he opened his own successful business, Hilltop Auto Body with his partner John McQuiggan. While working full-time, Floyd began teaching afternoon classes at Shawsheen Valley Technical High School in Billerica, until a full-time teaching position opened at the Manchester Skill Center, where he worked for 7 years. He then took his next position at Shawsheen Valley Technical High School, where he retired from teaching, after 20 plus years. Floyd was always very proud and dedicated to his students.
Cars were always Floyd’s passion, including a ’39 Chevy from his great-grandparents and then a cobalt blue '66 Charger. He enjoyed food, road trips with his wife Sharon, being with longtime friends, getting involved in his grandchildren’s activities, family vacations and snuggling with all the family dogs.
Lastly, Floyd liked collecting….anything and everything!
Surviving him is his wife of 57 years, Sharon E. (Mansolf) Newbegin of Dracut; his daughter, Tracey (Newbegin) DeBruin and her fiancé, Matt Wing of Tyngsboro; his son, Eric S Newbegin of Dracut; his grandchildren, Stephanie, Spencer, Brooke, Nick, Tyler, Nick, Kristi and Dylan; his sisters, Pam Hartung and her husband, Richard of Hampstead, NH and Lois Valentin of Haverhill; as well as several nieces and nephews.
