Filomena Flores, the beloved wife of the late Francisco Coelho, a Lowell resident, died on Friday, May 27, 2016, surrounded by her family. She was 88.
Filomena was born in Terceira, Portugal on October 19, 1927 a daughter of the late Francisco Flores and Rosa Nunes. She immigrated to the United States in 1982. Filomena first settled in Taunton, then moved to Lowell in 1983.
She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards with friends and cooking, especially for her family. Family was paramount to Filomena, and she cherished the big family dinners, when she would prepare immense meals for everyone at her house.
Filomena loved Carnival and Mardi Gras. She took great pleasure in watching the dances.
She was a loving mother and grandmother, who was always giving of herself. She was happiest when caring for her family.
Survivors include her seven children and their spouses, Ondina and Jose Valadao of Attleboro, Francisco and Virginia Coelho of Lowell, Ricardina and Antonio Gomes of California, Gilberto and Ana Flores of Portugal, Jose and Maria Coelho of Lowell, Luis Coelho and Nikki McCrohan of Taunton, Filomena and Antonio Alves of Lowell; seventeen grandchildren, Frankie and Vanessa Coelho, Sabrina and Nicolas Alves, Lenio Flores, Sandra Flores, Elizabeth Alves Michael Valadao, Magno Coelho, Tanya DeAmelio, Christina Simas, Lynette Canales, Michael Gomes, LJ Coelho, Jennifer, Stephanie, and Monica Resendes; and thirteen great grandchildren.
