Fernand "The Fernz" Cormier, Jr., 63, a lifelong Lowell resident, died peacefully Thursday April 7, 2011, in the comfort of his own home with his loving family at his side, following a battle with Cancer. He was the beloved husband of Marie-Elaine Cormier of Lowell with whom he celebrated forty three years of marriage in January.
Born in Lowell on June 10, 1947, He was a son of Carmen (Lepine) Cormier of Everett and the late Fernand Cormier, Sr.
Until his retirement in 2010, Fern was employed by Raytheon as a lab technician for forty three years.
Fern absolutely loved to golf. He was happiest while on the golf course and was especially challenged by the course at the Woods of Westminster. He was well known for his excellent pitching skills while playing softball in a Centralville league. He was a talented gardener and took pride in his rose garden. He will be sadly missed by his many friends that affectionately nicknamed him "Captain America."
In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include a daughter, Kristine C. Cormier of Lowell, two sons, Kevin M. Cormier of Ayer and Adam F. Cormier of Lowell; two granddaughters, Ashlee M. Cormier and Jordyn E. Capra; a sister, Priscilla Oyola of Everett; an aunt, Sr. Lucille Cormier of Holy Cross College, Worcester; his beloved Godchild, Hope A. Smith and her husband, Reggie; two sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law; several nieces, nephews and many dear friends including his best golfing buddy, Mike Armstrong.
He was predeceased by his brother, Lucien A. Cormier, in 2009.
