Fatima M. (Sousa) Loiselle, age 82, a longtime resident of Lowell died Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Lowell General Hospital following a long illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert J. Loiselle who died in 2004.
She was born in Santa Cruz, Graciosa, Azores, Portugal on July 16, 1941, and was a daughter of the late Casimiro and Deidamia (Lobao) Sousa.
Prior to her retirement, Fatima was employed for many years as a housekeeper for UMass Lowell. Earlier in life she was employed for many years by BASF in Bedford.
In her free time, she enjoyed doing embroidery, cooking and watching John Wick. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren, and later, her great-grandchildren.
Fatima is survived by her son-in-law, Gerald Ayotte of Lowell; four grandchildren, Delia Ayotte of Lowell, Robert Ayotte and his fiancée Aline Otsuka of Dracut, Justin Mitchell of Clinton, ME and Dylan Mitchell and his partner Chantelle Bernard of Waterville, ME; four great grandchildren, Julianna, Jackson, Greyson and Oliver; her sister, Adroalda (Mary) Nougueira and her husband Jose of Terceira, Azores; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also the mother of the late Debra Ayotte, Robin Loiselle and Cheryl Mitchell, and the sister of the late Manuel Sousa.
The family would also like to extend their heartfelt thank you to Lynn Schwartz, who provided support to Fatima and her caregivers in the final year of her life.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Fatima’s Life Celebration at the MCKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell on Monday, April 22nd from 4:00 until 7:00pm. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 23rd at 10:00am at St. Francis Church in Dracut. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery in Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fatima’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Shriners Children’s Boston, 51 Blossom St. Boston, Massachusetts 02114.
