Dracut – Evelyn "Loretta" (Gouveia) Whitney, 73, a resident of Dracut, passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2015 with her loving family by her side.
Born on June 18, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Antonio and Guilhermina (Martins) Gouveia. She grew up in Lowell with her six siblings, and she graduated from Lowell High School in 1961.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Honeywell Corp. of Lowell and Lawrence. She also worked at the IRS in No. Andover.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Debra L. and Gregory Dunn of VA; a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Peggy Gouveia of FL; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her longtime love of 29 years, Roland J. Fortin, who passed on September 3, 2015.
Loretta enjoyed traveling, and went on many cruises with Roland through the years. They also camped and were in a bowling league together. One of Loretta's favorite things to do was spend time at the casino with her niece Candy. She had a wonderful sense of humor, was very devoted to her family, and made every day brighter just by being part of it. She will be deeply missed.
