Evelyn M. (Vieira) Proulx, 91, a longtime Dracut resident, died Sunday July 6, 2014 at D'Youville Senior Care in Lowell. She was the wife of the late Gerard J. Proulx, who passed away in 2005 after 57 years of marriage.
Born in Lowell in 1922, she was a daughter of the late Manuel & Maria (Athaide) Vieira.
Evelyn attended Lowell schools and then went on to work as a stitcher for many years. She loved doing crafts, especially quilting and crocheting. Evelyn enjoyed playing cards with her friends, Bingo and taking trips to Foxwoods. She was a faithful communicant of Ste Marguerite D'Youville Parish in Dracut.
Evelyn leaves her son John Proulx and his dear wife, Cheryl, who has been like a daughter to her, of Dracut; two grandsons, David Proulx and his wife, Gisele of Surrey, Maine, Brian Proulx and his wife, Kimberly of Chelmsford; two great-grandchildren, Aleksandra (Sasha) Proulx, who was the love of her life and brought her so much love, joy and happiness and Joseph Duquette of Surrey, ME; a special cousin, John T. Vieira and his wife, Nancy of Lowell; six godchildren, Bernice Labreque of Florida, Mary Ann Lucy of Boxford, Daniel Newell of Lowell, Susan Proulx of Pennsylvania, Richard Kowalchuk of Pelham, NH, Alan Pyrcz of Pennsylvania; three sisters-in-law, Blanche Jussaume of Dracut, Louise Proulx of Dracut and Irene Vieira of Chelmsford; one brother-in-law, Robert Proulx of Dracut. Evelyn was always thankful for the love and friendship of her family and friends, especially Dorothy Pyrcz, her friend of over 70 years, and her family. Special thanks to Brian & Micky Lamarre and Shirley Sheehan who were always there when she needed them. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Evelyn was predeceased by her brothers, John Vieira, who died serving his country in WWII, George Vieira, Charles Vieira and his wife, Tina, William Vieira and his wife, Rose Ann and a sister, Mary Newell and her husband, Daniel.
