Eugene L. Mercier

Dracut--- Eugene L. Mercier, a Dracut resident, died Saturday May 5, 2007 at the Lowell General Hospital. He was 100 years old. He was the beloved husband of the late Bertha M. (Landry) Mercier, with whom he had been married for 64 years.
Born in Lowell on October 13, 1906, he was a son of the late Eugene L. and Malvina (Gaudette) Mercier.
Mr. Mercier served in the United States Army in France and Germany during WWII. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds received fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Edith Nourse Rogers Council of Lowell.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Mercier drove a delivery truck for the Sunbeam Bread Company of Manchester, NH. Relatives fondly remember him for using the phrase "Yes, Dear", which he attributed to the success of his 64 year marriage.
He was a communicant of Ste. Marguerite D'Youville Parish in Dracut. He was a member of the Teamsters, Local 686 in Lawrence. He was a member of the Dracut Senior Citizen's Club ,the Centralville Social Club and the Friends of the Dracut Elderly.
He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Marion Giguere of Dracut and Helen Landry of Lowell; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews. He was a brother of the late Beatrice Mercier, Irene Geoffrion and his twin brother Albert Mercier.
