LOWELL – Ernest J. "Sonny" Surprenant, 79, a Lowell resident, died on Monday, October 5, 2015 at the Lowell General Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Helen M. (Rioux) Surprenant, with whom he would have celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary on October 20th.
Born in Lowell on March 23, 1936, he was a son of the late Ernest W. and Bertha (Laferriere) Surprenant.
Mr. Surprenant was a graduate of St. Joseph's Elementary School.
In his youth he enjoyed amateur bodybuilding and as an adult he spent time bike riding, playing horseshoes, and playing pool with family and friends.
He was a communicant of the former St. Louis de France Church and was a member of the CCA Club and Club Passe Temps.
He cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Helen he leaves three daughters and their spouses, Kim and Kevin Brown of MD, Karen and Tim Walsh of Pelham, NH and Sherry and Jason LeBlanc of East Hampstead, NH; a step-daughter, Florence St. Armand of AK; three sisters, Pauline McKinnon of Dracut, Theresa Gendron of Lowell and Claire Watson and her husband James of FL; two brothers, Roger Surprenant of OH and Walter Surprenant of FL; 10 grandchildren, Matthew, Nathan and Kaitlyn Brown, Kaelyn, Cameron and Colby Walsh, and Montgomery, Tony, Madelynne and Sam LeBlanc. He was the brother of the late Maurice and Robert Surprenant and Yvette Martineau.
