Ernest J. Grand died peacefully at home on Monday, September 26th. He was 89 years old. He was a lifelong resident of Lowell. He was the husband of Mary "Sis" (O'Malley) Grand, with whom he celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on August 27, 2016.
Born in Lowell on June 22, 1927, he was the son of the late Ernest C. and Catherine (Marshall) Grand.
He graduated from Lowell High School in 1944 and Lowell Commercial College in 1949.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the South Pacific aboard the USS Troilus and after VJ day was assigned to occupational forces on Guam for the remainder of his tour.
His careers included Adm. Asst. to VP of finance, Boston and Maine Railroad, VP and Treasurer of Town Bank and Trust Co., Brookline, MA and supervisor in Industrial Engineering Dept., Raytheon Co., Lowell, MA.
He was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, James Grand and his husband Stephen Spurgeon of Palm Springs, CA; two daughters, Nancy Neglia and her husband Dr. Tom Neglia of San Diego, CA and Karen McDowell and her husband Michael of Dracut; a daughter-in-law, Carla Grand of Westford; grandchildren, Meghan Landers and her husband Sean of North Andover, Christopher McDowell and his wife Eliza of Dracut, Ross Grand of Los Angeles, CA and Zachary Grand of Westford; great grandchildren, Emerson and Dylan Landers of No. Andover; a sister, Catherine Wood and her husband Mark of Tewksbury; a sister-in-law, Joan Grand of Lowell as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ernest was predeceased in death by his son, David Grand, brothers, Raymond and William Grand and a sister, Dorothy West of Hayes, VA.
