Ernest A. Gelineau

September 23, 1930 — June 21, 2022

Ernest A. Gelineau, 91, a life-long resident of South Lowell, died Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at D'Youville Senior Care. He was the beloved husband of Constance M. (Loiselle) Gelineau, with whom he celebrated 68 years of marriage on February 28th.

He was born in South Lowell, MA on September 23, 1930 and was the son of the late Valerie (Jette) and Emile Gelineau. After he graduated from the Lowell Trade High School he went to work for Capital Motors, where he first spotted his sweetheart Miss Connie Loiselle.

Ernest proudly went on to enlist in the United States Navy serving his country during the Korean conflict. He served on the USS Bears Destroyer as a second class Fireman in the boiler room. He was commissioned to rebuild a furnace on an aircraft carrier they took out of mothballs. The General at the Navy base commended him on his fine masonry work even though he was not a mason. He was awarded the United Nations National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Medal. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Ernest went on to work for the Lowell Fire Department for 31 years and retired as Lieutenant Gelineau.

Ernest could fix or build almost anything. He enjoyed tinkering on cars and small engines. Ernest loved his gardening, growing tomatoes and riding his BMW motorcycle through country roads while stopping at diners for a bite to eat. Playing cribbage and pool with his grandchildren warmed his heart and were some of the best times spent. He also had a love for NH Chronicle and Jeopardy, not to mention calling Nicole, Ryan and Corey to look at the full moon, making sure they knew which Super Moon it was.

In addition to his wife and sweetheart, Constance, Ernest is survived and will be sorely missed by his three children, Bruce Gelineau and his life partner Jane Ahearn, Ronald Gelineau and his life partner Joanne Breault and Janet Gelineau and her life partner Stephen Rickert; his three grandchildren, Nicole Clement, Ryan Clement and Corey Clement and his wife Larissa; his great-grandson, Corey Clement, Jr. and Baby Niko Clement to arrive in August; his brother, Donald Gelineau; as well as many other family and friends.

He was the brother of the late Beaulah (Gelineau) Cote and Robert Gelineau and best friend of the late Robert and Blanche Lemelin and Donald and Lorette Brun.

Relatives and friends are invited to Ernest's Funeral Mass on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 10 AM in St. Patrick Church, 282 Suffolk Street, Lowell. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ernest's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
