Emily Dorothy (Koyutis) Grondine, age 102, a longtime resident of Dracut died peacefully Friday, November 10, 2023 at Lowell General Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Alfred O. Grondine who died in 1984.
She was born in Lowell on July 20, 1921, and was a daughter of the late Charles and Catherine Koyutis. She received her education in Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School.
Prior to her retirement, Emily was employed for many years as a tax processor for the IRS in Andover. Earlier in life she was employed by the former Lincoln’s Department Store in Lowell.
She was a parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen Church in Tyngsborough and a longtime member of the DLKV Lithuanian Club’s Ladies Auxiliary in Lowell.
Emily was very active into her later years, even riding a Segway in Paris in her 80’s. She enjoyed playing poker, bingo and cribbage and she was a world traveler. Her greatest joy however, was spending time in the company of her loving family, especially her adoring grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She will be fondly remembered as being a force of nature that spoke her mind, whether you wanted to hear it or not.
Emily is survived by two daughters, Mary Stevenson and her husband Gordon of Hudson, NH and Charlene Flynn and her husband Michael of Venice, FL; two sons, Alfred Grondine of Dracut and Charles D. Grondine and his wife Dianne of Tyngsborough; seven grandchildren, Dave Stevenson and his wife Gena of Hudson, NH, Sarah Doolan and her husband Trevor of Windham, NH, Jessica Syner and her husband Chris of Windham, NH, Kristina Flynn of Nashua, NH, Michael John Flynn and Lauren Calandrella of Tyngsborough, Emily C. Grondine of Nashua, NH and Alanna Grondine of Dracut; four great grandchildren, Charlotte, Olivia, Lily and Mikey; and a nephew Billy Koyutis and his wife Barbara and their daughter Kirsten and family of FL.
She was also the sister of the late William Koyutis, Major Mary Koyutis, USA, Ret. and Anna Koyutis.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Emily’s Life Celebration at the MCKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street on Sunday from 1:00 until 4:00pm. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00am at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Tyngsborough. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery in Lowell. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 13770 Noel Road, Suite 801889, Dallas, TX 75380 or at www.komen.org.
