Eleanore G. Gordon

April 16, 1939 — December 3, 2024

Port St. Lucie

Eleanore Gertrude (Dion) Gordon, 85, passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Cleveland Clinic Tradition Hospital, following a brief illness with her loving family by her side. She had lived in Dracut, MA until relocating to Port St Lucie, FL in 2019.

Born in Lowell on April 16, 1939, Eleanore was a daughter of the late Raymond and Delia (Boudries) Dion. She received her education in the City of Lowell school system and was a graduate of the Lowell High School, Class of 1957. Eleanore traveled many of her life’s journeys with her husband of 29 years, the late James J. Gordon. In the early years of her career, she was employed as an ER Admissions Clerk with St Joseph’s Hospital. Her next 30 years were spent working for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Employment Training, from where she retired in 2001.

Her faith was very important to her and helped guide her life. She long served as a communicant and Eucharistic Minister with both St. Jeanne d’Arc and St. Margaret’s parishes in Lowell. Of her many enjoyments, time with family was of the utmost importance, bringing her to her “Happy Place.” The more family she had around her, the happier she was. Preparing an overabundance of delicious foods and baking a variety of “goodies” for family and friends was her specialty.

Favorite hobbies included gardening, relaxing at the beach, going on cruises and traveling in general. Quiet time consisted of curling up with a good book, working on a puzzle or relaxing with her favorite musical arrangements provided by conductor André Rieu. Eleanore’s competitive side shone through during many a Saturday night card game. And the mere mention of a trip to the casino absolutely lit up her face.

She loved whole-heartedly and was loved immensely by all. She was there unconditionally and gave unselfishly to each one of her family members. She had the most beautiful smile and great sense of humor (which was evident until she passed.) Everything she accomplished in life she did with grace, dignity and pride.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Albert Dion and two sisters, Doris (Dion) Poisson and Janet (Dion) Young. The three sisters spent much of their time together and were affectionately known as “The Golden Girls.”

Eleanore is survived by her seven children: MaryAnn Gialousis and her husband, Alex of Port St. Lucie, FL; Debbie Deblois and her partner, George Dadekian of Salem, NH; Raymond Whitcomb of Hudson, NH; Linda McCarthy and her husband, Brian of Port St. Lucie, FL; Suzanne Brunelle and her partner, Steve McNally of Dracut, MA; Janet Tulley and her husband, Joseph of Fort Pierce, FL and Kenneth Whitcomb of Dracut, MA. She was blessed with fourteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and three nieces.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Eleanore’s Life Celebration at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell on Saturday, January 25, 2025 from 9 until 11 AM followed by her Funeral Mass at 12 PM at St. Margaret of Scotland Church, 374 Stevens Street, Lowell. Burial will be private.
