Lowell - Eleanor M. (Cawley) Hickey, 70, wife of Arthur J. Hickey, a resident of the Christian Hill Section of Lowell, died Friday February 25, at a local nursing home following a brief illness.
She was born in Lowell on June 10, 1934, a daughter of the late Edward D. and Louise H. (McKenna) Cawley.
Mrs. Hickey attended Notre Dame Academy, graduated from Lowell High School in 1952, and Merrimack College, with a BA degree in 1957.
She was a retired Physical Education teacher in the Lowell School Department, having taught at the Varnum, Butler, Pyne, and Oakland Elementary Schools.
Very active in St. Michael Parish, she taught CCD, tutored in the English as a Second Language Program, and was a member of the choir, was Past President of Legion of Mary, a member of the 3rd Order of Carmelite Nuns, the Women's College Catholic League, and Women's Catholic Guild, one of the founders of the Centralville Girls Softball League. She was also active in various civic causes and political campaigns.
Surviving her besides her husband are three sons and two daughters in law, Andrew J. and Mary Hickey of Dracut, Edward C. Hickey of Lowell, Terence P. and Elizabeth Hickey of Tampa, FL; two daughters and sons in law Louise M. and Charles Howard of Carver, Kathleen A. and Kevin Scott of Lowell; nine grandchildren, Julia, Kathryn and Delaney Hickey, Shannon, Christopher and Daniel Howard, John Kevin and Timothy Scott; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late Edward J. Cawley and Louise M. Cawley.
