Eleanor L. "Ellie" Clancey

July 12, 1938 — December 6, 2022

Dracut

Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother

DRACUT - Eleanor “Ellie” L. Clancey, 84, a long-time Dracut resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Francis Clancey with whom she shared 62 years of marriage.

She was born in Medford on July 12, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Charles and Alice (Anderson) Samson.

Raised and educated in Somerville, she graduated from Somerville High School in 1956. She earned her associate degree in nursing from MassBay Community College in 1974.

Ellie was a dedicated nurse whose passion for her patients touched countless lives throughout her successful 35-year career. She practiced nursing at New England Memorial Hospital in Stoneham and went on to become staff development leader at Epoch Senior Healthcare of Melrose. Ellie had a beautiful singing voice, a love for the theater and could “out Jeopardy” anyone who watched an episode with her. She had many talents and interests, however the thing she cherished the most was her family: “Family is everything” was her mantra.  In addition, Ellie was a thoughtful friend, never missed a special date and was the devoted conductor for every family gathering.

Ellie is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Francis Clancey; her daughter Joanne Murphy and her husband Timothy of Dracut; and her son Steven Clancey and his wife Lisa of Atlanta. She was the loving Nana of four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was the sister of Joseph Samson and the late Charles Samson.

At Ellie’s request, there will be no public funeral service or calling hours. A private burial will be held with immediate family only.

In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may make memorial donations in Ellie’s name to the Dementia Society of America. https://www.dementiasociety.org
