Elaine I. "Eitty" (Klain) Mayrand

Elaine Irene "Eitty" (Klain) Mayrand , age 89, a lifelong resident of Lowell MA , passed away after a long and full life peacefully on Wedneday, November 1, 2017.    

Born in Lowell on May 31, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Rose and Myer Klain.  Elaine was married to the late Joseph E. "Jerome" Mayrand.  She was the sister of the late Abram Surkis and a very dear friend of the late Walter Small.

Elaine lived in the YWCA in her early 20's where she met and maintained many wonderful friendships, some through correspondence for over 60 years. She enjoyed dancing and considered the Commodore Ballroom as her 2nd home.  She enjoyed sewing, baking (especially her Christmas sugar cookies) and traveling to new destinations, as well as swimming at the YMCA until the age of 85. Elaine was known for her walking, particularly the "snow day" that she walked close to two miles to the YMCA to swim! Elaine was also a member of the Lowell Senior Center.

Elaine is survived by her five children:  Paula and Michael Basnett, Michael and Carol (Thamer) Mayrand, Brenda and Michael Fontannay, Linda Mayrand and Thomas Mayrand.  Elaine is also survived by her grandchildren, Michelle Basnett; Alyssa, Sonya and Noah Mayrand; Jenna and Kendra Fontannay and Wyatt Mayrand.   Elaine leaves many nieces and nephews, including a very dear nephew, Alvin Surkis and his wife Arlene and two sister-in-laws, Pearl Richards and Yvette Mayrand.   She also leaves her cousin Arthur Krupnick and her "little sister", childhood friend, Pauline Duffy.
