Edward M. Olin, Sr., age 70, a longtime resident of the Centralville section of Lowell, died following a brief illness on Thursday, January 4, 2018 while surrounded by his loved ones at Lowell General Hospital. Ed was the beloved husband of the late Barbara A. (David) Olin who passed away in March of 2011. Born in Lowell on May 4, 1947, he was a son of Mary (Silveira) Olin of Spring Hill, FL and the late Manuel A. Olin. Edward was a lifelong parishioner of St. Michael Parish of Lowell and attended the Parish elementary school where he met the love of his life, Barbara.
A hard-working father, Ed was employed by DeMoulas Supermarkets / Market Basket for more than forty-three years in various capacities at their Tewksbury and Lawrence distribution centers. He was very thankful for his longevity with DeMoulas and the support the company provided to his family throughout the years. He demonstrated his thankfulness through his charitable giving to numerous organizations. Ed cherished his family vacation time in the New Hampshire Lakes Region, Maine, Cape Cod, the Pocono Mountains and visiting his mother in Florida. Ed was a lover of animals and always had multiple pets to keep him company. Ed enjoyed playing cribbage with friends and family as well as completing jigsaw puzzles and taking day trips to Foxwoods Casino.
Above all things, Ed loved his family unconditionally and they will miss him every day. In addition to his mother Mary, survivors include four daughters, Ann Marie Olin of Round Hill, VA, Julie Long and her husband James of Dracut, Bernadette O'Neil and her husband Kevin of Lowell, Elizabeth O. Leonard and her husband Timothy of Leominster; a son, Edward M. Olin, Jr and his Fiancé Natalie Chouinard of Atkinson, NH; four grandchildren; Lucas Leonard, Lacey Long, Austin Leonard and Finnegan O'Neil; Catherine Olin, the wife of his brother, the late Daniel Olin of Litchfield, NH; several in-laws, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his companion Margaret (Peggy) Joslin of Lowell.
Services - Relatives and friends are invited to Ed's Life Celebration on Tuesday from 5 until 7 PM at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday morning at 10 AM in St. Michael Church. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed's name may be made to the Merrimack Valley Food Bank, 735 Broadway Street, Lowell, MA 01854.
