DRACUT - Edward J. Goyette, Sr., age 91, a lifelong resident of Lowell and most recently of Dracut, died Friday, January 12, 2024 at Lowell General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Theresa M. (Elie) Goyette, to whom he was married for 68 years. Ed was born in Lowell, a son of the late Henry and Mary (Krygowska) Goyette. He graduated from Lowell High School, then proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
He went on to work for over 40 years at Raytheon in North Andover, then “retired” by helping his son launch Beantowne Coffee House in Cambridge, MA and Hampstead, NH, where he made mornings brighter for thousands of people over the next 14 years.
A skilled poet, Ed penned hundreds of original works over the course of his life, most of which were beautifully crafted using the art of calligraphy. He also deeply enjoyed dancing, golf, and music of all kinds.
As a deeply religious man, Ed loved connecting with people. His engaging personality always made them smile and feel special. He was always there with a kind word and a genuine offer to help. The greatest loves of his life were his wife Terry and his children. Ed was very blessed to have formed lasting relationships with his grandchildren and loved the blessings of having 6 great-grandchildren. He was known for regaling his family and friends with his many stories about the Navy and life in general. Most stories ended with one of his many quips, like “Keep smiling, Keep ‘em guessing . . . Never let them know what you’re thinking!”
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children, Edward J. Goyette, Jr. and his wife Pamela, Sharon M. Cash and her husband Rick, and Linda A. Szablak and her husband Chet; his eight grandchildren Richard Cash, III and his wife Maryann, Leanne Bradley and her husband Nicholas, Lauren Clark and her husband Daniel, Michael Szablak and his wife Kate, Amy Szablak and her fiancé Michael Orlando, Noelle, Christopher, and Nicholas Goyette; and six great-grandchildren, Ricky, Emmett, Lorelai, Abigail, Jacob, and Natalie; two brothers, Peter Goyette of Dracut and Henry Goyette and his wife Phyllis of Windham, NH; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his twin sister, Emily Dupuis, and his sister-in-law, Theresa A. (Kelleher) Goyette.
