Edward J. Chandonnet

February 28, 1926 — November 24, 2015

Edward J. Chandonnet Jr. , 89, died peacefully on November 24th 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Simonne (Beaudette) Chandonnet with whom he was blessed to share the anniversary of 66 years of marriage on the day of his passing.

Born on February 28th 1926, he was the son of the late Edward and Albina (Beaudoin) Chandonnet. He received his education and graduated from St. Louis de France School. He also attended St. Joseph's High School. Edward proudly served his country as a Seaman First Class in the US Navy aboard the US Lawrence C.Taylor Destroyer Escort in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged in 1946 after 2 ½ years of service.

Prior to his retirement in 1985, Edward worked at the Uxbridge Mills for several years as a purcher. He was a self-employed scrap metal dealer in Lowell, MA for over 30 years.

Edward was a communicant and active member of the former St Louis de France Parish in Lowell until it's closing, and more recently Ste. Marguerite D'Youville Parish in Dracut. He served as an usher and acolyte for funerals for many years prior to his death.
He was a proud member of the St. Louis de France Veteran's Organization as well as the VFW Walker Rogers Post 622. Perhaps his proudest accomplishment was his involvement in the creation and dedication of the Centralville Veterans' Memorial Park which culminated this May with the dedication of a monument for Ed's childhood friend Normand Brissette who died as a POW in the atomic bombing at Hiroshima, Japan. Edward, along with his loyal and long time friends Albert Guilbeault and Bernie Lemoine worked tirelessly to make sure those who gave the ultimate sacrifice would not be forgotten.

Edward is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Simonne, a daughter Ruth and her husband Roger Dubois of Lowell, a son Roland and his wife Dianne of Dracut, a son Andre and his wife Dorothy of Lowell, and a son Normand and his wife Debbie of Tampa, FL. Additionally he leaves behind his grandchildren: Michelle and her husband Robert, Andre and his wife Donna, Danielle and her husband Derek, Marc and his wife Jody, Michael and his wife Jennifer, Timothy, and Nicole and her husband Manny: great grand children: Jake, Alison, Abrielle, Emily, Savanah, Christian, Jaelyn, Kinley, Charlie, Zachary, Abigail, Joshua, Leõn, and Trevor, and step great grand children: Padraig, Michael, Isabella and Kristine.
Edward also leaves behind a brother Raymond and his wife Pauline, a sister Rita Frechette, and sisters-in-law Mae Chandonnet and Estelle Tarpinian as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by brothers: Jerry and his wife Yvette, Emile and his wife Imelda, Arthur and his wife Doris, and Robert as well as sisters: Claire, Ida, and Alice and her husband Lucien Cote. He was the brother-in-law of the late Sylvio Frechette. Edward was also great grandfather to the late Gracie and Nathan Metzler.
