DRACUT – Edward J. Chagnon, 83, died Thursday, October 23rd, 2014 at home, after a brief illness. He was born in Lowell on September 6, 1931 to the late Malcom and Clara (Fleury) Chagnon. Edward, (or Sonny) as his friends called him, attended Lowell primary schools, and was well known in the Centerville neighborhood. Edward served in the Massachusetts Army National Guard during the Korean War, and worked at Lowell Shoe Company for many years. He loved to play cards and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. He also took a keen interest in local and national politics.
Edward was married, for 54 years, to the late Theresa (Savard) Chagnon. He leaves his children Ronald and his wife Rachel Chagnon of Lowell, Denise Chagnon of Lowell, Yvonne Chagnon of Lowell, Michelle (Chagnon) Pease and her husband Mark of Dracut, Gregory Chagnon of Hudson NH, and Michael Chagnon of Dracut. In addition, he leaves five siblings, a brother Richard Chagnon of Dracut and sisters Florence LaCedra and her husband Paul of Ogunquit ME, Irene Adamczyk of Dracut, Loretta Paquette of Dracut, and Blanche Young and her husband Herbert of Nashua NH. Also, 16 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Roger Chagnon of Dracut and a brother George Chagnon of Lowell.
