Edward J. Burke

Methuen - Edward J. Burke, age 62, beloved husband of Paulette M. (Savard) Burke, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, June 24, 2007, at his home following a battle with lung cancer.
He was born in Lowell on October 29, 1944, a son of the late Edward and Christine (Mungovan) Burke.
Ed had lived in Lowell for many years prior to moving to Dracut and then Methuen.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, he had served in the US Army where he received the Bronze Star Medal and Army Commendation with First Oak Leaf Cluster.
A graduate of the University of Massachusetts Lowell, he taught in the Lowell school system for eight years. Ed was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Mental Retardation in the Human Resources Department retiring in 2001 after 27 years of service. He was later employed at the Internal Revenue Service in Andover, then Lowell.
Ed was a communicant of St. Francis Parish where he served as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion.
He was also a member of the DAV Lowell Post 125.
Surviving him besides his wife are a son, Jonathan E. Burke of Methuen; a brother and sister-in-law Michael J. and Theresa Burke of Lowell; two sisters, Jane Guimond of Dracut, Christine Burke of Raymond, NH; several nieces and nephews; a cousin Margaret Moran of Wilmington; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Irene and Gerard Letendre of Lowell, Yolande Cordeiro of Billerica, Roger and Mary Savard of Lowell, Michelle and James Martin of Dracut, Paula Savard of Sterling. He was also the brother-in-law of the late Gerard Savard and William Cordeiro.
