Edward J. “Little Joe” Basnett, 82, a resident of Dracut, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at home with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Linda A. (Bouchard) Basnett, with whom he was married 52 years.
Born in Lowell, MA on July 2, 1941, he was the son of the late Rose (Kennedy) Basnett. Joe worked as a Corrections Officer at the Billerica House of Corrections for 28 years, until his retirement in 2000.
Joe was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a member of the Dracut Civic Club for many years and one of the founding members of the Dracut Road Runner’s Car Club.
Linda and family would like to thank their granddaughter, Jacqueline, for all the exceptional care given to him, Billy Cremens, for taking him out every week for the past two years so that he could see friends and also to Danielle from Tufts Medicine Care at Home.
In addition to his wife Linda, Joe is survived by his two sons, Mark Basnett and his wife Marybeth of Dracut and Jason Basnett and his wife Deanna of Pelham, NH; his six grandchildren, Markie, Christopher, Caylie, Jacqueline, Deajay and Dominic; his two great-grandchildren, Colton and Avery; his sister, Carol Poulin of Nashua, NH; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late William Basnett, Virginia Lahiff, Margie Parkhurst and Patricia Rodziewicz.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Monday, May 13, 2024 from 10 AM until 12:30 PM at the McKENNNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell. His Funeral Service will be celebrated immediately following at 12:30 PM in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
