Dorothy L. (Jarret) Luz, beloved wife of the late Leonard C. Luz, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at the Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC. She was 88.
She was born in Lowell on March 3, 1930, the youngest daughter and one of eleven children of Leo F. and Mary C. (Bomgeois) Jarret.
Dorothy was educated in Lowell and lived there for many years prior to moving to Pelham, NH where she lived for several decades before moving with her son to Stem, NC in 2011.
In earlier years Dorothy studied opera and she always loved to sing. She enjoyed cake decorating and made many wedding cakes over the years. Dorothy looked forward to tending to her garden. Her passion was chihuahuas. She was a breeder who had many champion show dogs. She had been breeding and showing chihuahuas since the early 1970's. Dorothy was a member of the American Kennel Club for many years.
Survivors include her son and son in law, Leonard C. Luz, Jr., and Frederick Buzzell of Stem, NC, with whom she resided; four grandchildren, Leonard C. Luz III and his wife Danielle of Lowell, Mark B. Luz and his wife Dawn of Derry, NH, David C. Luz of Derry, Mary-Elizabeth Barela and her husband Brian of Mesa, AZ; ten grandchildren, Cameron, Coleman, and Jessica Luz, Ronald Ricard, Nikolas and Jillian Luz, David C. Luz, Jr., Alyssa, Kaitlin and Delia Barela.
Relatives and friends are invited to Dorothy's Life Celebration at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, from 5 until 8 PM on Wednesday. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 AM in St. Michael Church. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy's memory may be made to the Animal Rescue Network of New England, P.O. Box 1053, Pelham, NH 03076. ARNNE.org
