March 3, 1933 — April 30, 2021

LOWELL - Dorothy M. "Dottie" (Hamel) Gaumont, RN, 88, a lifelong resident of Lowell, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, April 30, 2021. She was the beloved wife of the late Henry A. Gaumont, Sr., with whom she shared 53 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2009.
Born in Lowell on March 3, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Roland H. and Marie Diane (Lavoie) Hamel and grew up in the Highlands section of the city before she and Henry made their home in Belvidere.
Dottie was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy, Class of 1950, and St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1953, embarking on a long, satisfying and very successful career as a Registered Nurse, and as the owner and operator of The Lowell Registry for Private Duty Nurses & Aides. She was proud to provide care for many patients and their families in the Greater Lowell area for over 40 years. Dedicated to making a comfortable environment for those needing medical care at home, she remained active until just recently when illness forced her retirement. She maintained her involvement with the St. Joseph's Hospital School Nursing Sodality and was instrumental in planning their gatherings and reunions over the years.
While raising her children, Dottie was an active member of the PTAs for the various schools that her children attended and enjoyed being a Den Mother for her son's Boy Scout troop.
She and her husband Henry were well known in the square dancing circuit as members of the Alpine Squares of Chelmsford. She had a wonderful passion for oil painting and was a very talented artist. She loved adventures, travel, and could be counted on to light up any gathering, whether it was bowling, card playing, trips to the casino, simply hosting an impromptu party or socializing with her family and many friends.
Dottie was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church and was a former president of the Immaculate Conception Women's Sodality.
Most important to Dottie was spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends, especially at their summer lake house on Cobbetts Pond.
She leaves four loving children, Henry A. Gaumont, Jr. and his spouse Lucille (Roux) of Windham, NH, Nancy Wynne and her spouse Robert of Brewster, Debra M. Barbo of Yarmouth Port, and Michelle M. Skolnik and her spouse Kathleen of East Dennis; seven grandchildren, Aaron and Rachel Gaumont, both of Windham, NH, Ian Barbo and his wife Laura of Chicago, IL, Andy Barbo and his wife Amanda of Portland, ME, Becky Dodge and her husband Jared of Niantic, CT, Seth Wynne of Cambridgeport and Christopher Skolnik of East Dennis; three and three-quarters great grandchildren, Maggie Jean and Caroline Dorothy Barbo, both of Chicago, IL, Sadie Ann Barbo of Portland, ME, and a player to be named later, of Niantic, CT; a beloved brother-in-law, Leo LeMay of Dracut; also many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Richard Barbo as well as her brother, Gerald Hamel and his wife, Angela.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute who helped guide Dottie and her family through a drug trial that blessed them with an extra two years of fun to an already full life. Dottie was very proud to participate in the successful study of LOXO-292 that will go on to help extend the life of others who are diagnosed with the same type cancer.
