Doris (Latour) Whitney, a Groveland resident, died on Monday August 25, 2014 with her family by her side. She was 71.
Doris was the beloved wife of Frank R. Whitney, with whom she shared 52 years of marriage.
She was born in Lowell on June 1, 1943, a daughter of the late Arthur H. and Imelda M. (Landry) Latour. Doris moved to Dracut at a young age and graduated from Dracut High School.
Prior to her retirement she was employed as a technical typist for Raytheon and later a military research company.
Doris enjoyed camping, traveling, reading. She loved playing cards and games, especially on Saturday nights. A few of the places she liked to visit were the Grandview Campground, Foxwoods Resort, Florida and Myrtle Beach. She treasured scenic drives with Frank. Most of all she cherished time spent with her family, as they were paramount to her.
Doris' family describes her as a loving, compassionate person who was generous with her time and talents. She cared deeply for others and was a determined individual. Her children feel that her mother and husband were influential in her life.
Surviving her besides her husband are her two children, Deborah Silvestri and her husband Rosario of Groveland, Mark Whitney of Kittery Point, ME; three grandchildren, Ryan Silvestri, Elizabeth Whitney, Angela Silvestri; her sisters and brother in law, Lorraine Gorby, Claire and Mike Brady all of Dracut; aunts and uncles, Florence Sevigny of Dracut, Wilfred Landry of Tyngsboro, Lorraine Coughlin of Lowell; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also the sister of the late Robert Latour and Pauline Roberge.
