DRACUT - Doris I. (Thibault) Sylvester, 89, a resident of Dracut, passed away on Sunday evening, January 29, 2017 at the Lowell General Hospital with her loving family by her side.
She was the wife of the late Conrad R. Sylvester who passed in 1967 and George O. "Mike" Gauthier, who passed in 2008.
Born in Lawrence on July 29, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Clara (Morin) Thibault.
Doris was a graduate of St. Joseph's High School in Lawrence and St. Joseph's Hospital Nursing Cadet Corps., Class of 1945.
She was employed as a Registered Nurse for the Board of Health in Dracut for 23 years, retiring in July of 1987. She was also the school nurse at the former Ste. Therese Parochial School in Dracut. She had previously been employed as a nursing supervisor at the former St. Joseph's Hospital.
An avid cribbage player, she enjoyed playing at the Dracut Senior Citizens Center and was also in the Chelmsford Cribbage League at the Princeton Station playing on Monday evenings. She also went on many trips with her friends from the Pelham Senior Citizens Club.
Doris loved going out to eat, travel, and was an avid shopper with grocery shopping being her favorite. She was a communicant of St. Mary Magdalen Church in Tyngsboro and was a member of AARP.
Unlike many of her contemporaries, Doris embraced new technology and appreciated the convenience of a cell phone and a computer, and enjoyed playing video games, especially Zelda.
Doris loved all animals and looked forward to watching her favorite shows on Animal Planet. She was fond of her granddogs, Apollo, Artemis and Majesty.
She is survived by five children, Cynthia M. "Cindy" Sylvester of Dracut, Sharon S. Marsh and her husband Allan of Chelmsford, Suzanne Gauthier and her husband George Boss of Nashua, NH, Michelle Gauthier and her husband Vincent Buscemi of Newburyport and Arthur Gauthier and his wife Anne of Alexandria, VA, ; 5 grandchildren, Allison Marsh, Alexander Marsh, Jesse Gauthier, Adam Gauthier and Jamie Buscemi; also several nieces and nephews. She was a sister of the late Cecile Rantanen, Lorraine Costa, Joseph Victor Thibault and Yvonne Slauta.
