Doris G. Abreu …Loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, 

LOWELL - Doris G. Abreu, died November 26 on her 94th birthday at High Pointe House in Haverhill after a period of declining health. She was born in Lowell, the youngest child of Alfred and Ruth (Lawton) Gorham on November 26, 1928. She attended Lowell schools and graduated from Lowell High School in 1947. She was married to the love of her life, Joseph Abreu, who predeceased her in September of this year. They shared 74 wonderful years together.

 

After raising their family and following his retirement, Doris and Joe moved to Pinellas Park, FL, where they enjoyed the next 25 years staying active and making new friends. Two years ago they moved back up north to be closer to family and resided at The Arbors Assisted Living in Dracut which enabled them to spend time with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. More recently they lived at Mary Immaculate Health Services in Lawrence.

 

Doris is survived by her four children: Richard Abreu of Ocala, FL, Barbara Harrington of Newburyport, Joan and her husband, Paul McCarthy of Lowell and Anthony Abreu of Derry, NH as well as her nine grandchildren: Kristina (Ernie) Lopez, Jason (Dawn) Leroux, Charles (Bethany) Kelleher III, Jaclyn (Matthew) Kelleher-Roy, Elizabeth Goguen, Bryan (Kasie) Donoghue, Travis McCarthy, Andrew McCarthy and Chloe Abreu and eleven great-grandchildren: Kalina and Gabriella Lopez, Abby and Logan Roy, Samuel and Zachary Goguen, Aidan and Cailyn Kelleher, Cooper Leroux, and Landon and Ava Donoghue. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Carolina Dubay of CT, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

 

Along with her husband and parents Doris was predeceased by her sisters Althea Callahan Stolpner, Nancy Scott, Ruth Gorham and her brother Alfred, her son-in-law James Harrington, her mother and father-in-law Carolina and Antonio Abreu, her brothers-in-law Louis (Mary) Abreu and Arthur (June) Abreu, and Harvey Dubay.

 

The family would like to thank the staff at The Arbors of Dracut, Dr. Jessica Wieselquist and staff at Stoney Brook Primary Care in Chelmsford, Mary Immaculate Health Services of Lawrence, and High Pointe House for their compassionate care.

 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Doris’ Life Celebration at the McKenna-Ouellette Funeral Home, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell on Thursday from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Michael Church on Sixth Street in Lowell. Burial will be private.
