Doris R. (Lemay) Daigle

June 5, 1929 — February 26, 2014

Doris R. (Lemay) Daigle, 84, a resident of the Pawtucketville section of the city, died peacefully on Wednesday February 26, 2014 at the Lowell General Hospital, among family and friends, following a period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of the late George W. Daigle, with whom she was married for 51 years. Born in Lowell on June 5, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Philippe and Anna (Cyr) Lemay. Doris was educated in Lowell schools and graduated from St. Joseph's High School. She worked as an optometrist's assistant and receptionist in the practice of Dr. Joseph Montminy in Lowell. She went on to have a career in bookkeeping. For more than thirty years she managed accounts for Oscar's Welding Shop, the Canadian Sausage Company and Ziagos Electrical Supply. One of her favorite roles was later in life, when she became a devoted Nanny to several local children.
Doris was a warm and kindhearted person. She had a beautifully decorated home and always welcomed her friends and family there. She was a talented and accomplished seamstress and cook. Doris loved vacationing with her family at Seabrook Beach, NH and Cape Cod. She enjoyed singing, theatre and music, especially her husband's performances in the Franco-American Choir and La Chorale Orion. She was a longtime communicant of the former Ste. Jeanne d'Arc Church of Lowell.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Lise D. Wilson and her husband Blake, of Glenville, NY; two grandsons, Daniel G. Wilson of Albany, NY and Samuel H. Wilson of Herndon, VA; a sister, Joyce Lemay of Manchester, NH; sister-in-law Terry Pelletier and her husband Tony, of Lowell; sister-in-law Fern Champagne of Lowell; niece and Godchild Paula Marshall of Tewksbury; nephew Brian Riordan and his wife Liz, of Hampton Falls, NH; nephew Christopher Chester of Stoneham, MA; her Godchildren, David Pelletier, Charlene Thibeault, Eric Phinney, and Gregory Bench; a cousin-in-law, Louis Rousseau and his wife, Pauline of Dracut; and many other nieces, nephews and dear friends including Rita Stanton and family of Goffstown, NH. She was the sister of the late Pauline Riordan.
Doris's family wishes to express appreciation to all those neighbors and friends who made home repairs, ran errands and offered the companionship that made it possible for her to spend her final years content at home in the house George built. The family also thanks the outstanding nurses, aides and physicians of the Lowell General Hospital Cardiac Care Unit for their medical expertise and the compassionate care they provided to Doris.
