Doreen I. (Marsh) Young, a resident of Lowell, died on Wednesday November 14, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. She was 86.
She was born in Plymouth, England on May 7, 1926, a daughter of the late William Henry Webb Marsh and Evelyn Amelia (Couldridge) Marsh.
During WWII, Doreen worked as a welder in a shipyard in Plymouth, England. When she emigrated to the United States Doreen was employed at the Boott Mills in Lowell. She retired from the City of Lowell school department where she worked for many years.
She was a member of the VFW Walker-Rogers Post 662 Ladies Auxiliary in Lowell where she also served as a member of the Bingo committee.
Doreen's hobbies included bowling, knitting and crocheting. She also enjoyed camping, cooking and cake decorating. She liked taking bus trips with the Lowell Senior Citizen Club, especially to Foxwoods Resort. Most of all, Doreen cherished dining out with family and friends.
Survivors include her sons, Michael Young and his wife Sandra, Brian Young and his wife Laura, all of Methuen; three grandchildren, Dawn Marie Gosselin and her husband Eric, Danielle Young, Jason Young; two great grandchildren, Collin Gosselin, Bryanna Gosselin; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Stanley Marsh, Raymond and Sylvia Marsh, Reginald and Joyce Marsh, all of Plymouth, England; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the longtime companion of the late Harry A. Charity of Lowell.
