Donald J. McNamara … lifelong Centralville resident, avid outdoorsman; 83
LOWELL – Donald J. McNamara, 83, a lifelong resident of the Christian Hill neighborhood in the Centralville section of Lowell, died Monday, April 11, 2011 at Saints Medical Center following a brief illness. He was the husband of Edna P. (Hann) McNamara, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.
Born in Lowell on March 4, 1928, he was a son of the late James F. and Blanche (Ayotte) McNamara.
Mr. McNamara attended Lowell Schools and served with the United States Army with the occupational forces in Germany following World War II.
Mr. McNamara retired from the U.S. Postal Service, Dracut Branch, having been employed as a letter carrier for 42 years.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, camping and golfing and was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Golf Course in Lowell for over 30 years.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Michael J. McNamara and Daniel J. McNamara, both of Lowell; three grandchildren, Seth McNamara of NH, Cody McNamara of Billerica and Logan McNamara and his mother Tracey (Beals) McNamara of Danvers; a sister, Agnes Pierce of TN; a sister-in-law, Mary McNamara of Dracut; also several nieces and nephews. He was a brother of the late James F. McNamara, Jr. and Francis McNamara.
