Lowell- Donald F. McGovern, 75, husband of Mary P. (Lally) McGovern, died Tuesday August 8, 2006 at his Centralville residence.
Born in Lowell on December 2, 1930, he was a son of the late Francis A. and Mary A. (Mullaney) McGovern.
He was a 1949 graduate of Lowell High School.
Mr. McGovern served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
In earlier days, he was employed for twenty years at the former First National Stores. Prior to his retirement he was employed for forty two years by the City of Lowell. Thirty six of which he worked for the Lowell School Department. The last twenty years of his employment was as a supervisor of custodians.
He was a communicant of St. Michael Church, and a member of the Korean War Veterans.
Surviving him, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Patricia Ann Gormley and her husband Brian of NH, Nancy E. McGovern of Lowell; a son Michael F. McGovern and his wife Carolyn (Rider) of Lowell; a brother, John R."Jack" McGovern of Lowell; a sister in law, Marilyn McGovern of Lowell; three grandchildren, John McGovern and Margaret McGovern both of Lowell, Faith Gormley of NH; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Francis L. McGovern.
