LOWELL - Donald L. Sylvester, Sr., age 67, a lifelong resident of Lowell died Wednesday, September 21, 2022 following a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Rose M. (Dube) Sylvester, to whom he has been married for 48 years.
He was born in Lowell on September 2, 1955, and was a son of the late Clayton and Pauline (Hailey) Sylvester. He received his education in Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School.
Donald proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps.
Prior to his retirement, he worked for many years as a butcher. In recent years he enjoyed driving a cab.
He also enjoyed bingo and going on trips with his family, especially to Walt Disney World.
In addition to his wife, Donald is survived by his son, Leo Sylvester of Lowell; four daughters, Jeanne Lekas of Lowell, Theresa Malaret and her husband Victor of Lowell, Rose Christian and her husband Jerry of Dorchester, and Rita Sylvester and her husband John of Lowell; 39 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Paul Dube of Lowell; a sister-in-law, Carol Hawkins of Lowell and several nieces and nephews.
He was also the father of the late Donald Sylvester, Jr. and brother of the late Ronald Sylvester.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Donald’s Life Celebration at the MCKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell on Thursday from 8:15am until 9:15am followed by his Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00am at St. Francis Church in Dracut. Burial in Westlawn Cemetery in Lowell.
