With deep sadness we announce, Dennis M. Cahill, was called to his heavenly home on May 4, 2025 surrounded by loved ones at High Point Hospice House, Haverhill. He was the loving husband of Patricia A. (Medina) Cahill for more than 45 years.
Dennis was born October 9, 1929 in Loughrea, County Galway, Ireland to the late Thomas and Mary (Barrett) Cahill. Dennis was educated at Boston College, earned his Master's Degree at Boston State Teacher’s College and was ordained a Diocesan priest in 1958 by Richard Cardinal Cushing. He serviced in Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, East Boston, St. Peter’s Parish, Lowell, and St. Theresa’s Parish , Billerica. He was laicized by Pope Paul VI.
During Dennis’ life he served as chaplain for East Boston District Court, Assumption Drum and Bugle Corps, St. Francis K of C, East Boston, Billerica House of Correction, Woman’s Catholic College Club, Lowell and Solomon Mental Health, Lowell. He was also a member of the Dracut Knights of Columbus Arthur Joyal Council 442
Before his retirement, Dennis was employed by the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Dept. as a Social Worker and the City of Lowell School Dept. as a Special Needs Paraprofessional at the Pyne Arts School. He enjoyed the staff and the children. At the age of 90 he retired and turned in his drivers license to his wife.
Dennis is survived by his loving and devoted wife Patricia and the children, Kelly and her husband Jeffrey Russell of Londonderry, NH, Ryan and Kelley (Brown) Boland of Haverhill, Ma. He was the proud Papa to Timothy and his wife Victoria, Caroline and her fiancé Nathanial, Matthew and Abigail. Also leaves his brother Thomas (Rosalie), his sister Maureen (Robert) Digan, sister in laws, Lillian Cahill and Carol Andrade, many nieces , nephews and dear friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Patrick & sister Florence, brothers in law Arthur Sullivan and Mario Andrade, one niece and four nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to Dennis' Life Celebration in St. Francis Church, 115 Wheeler Rd. Dracut on Saturday from 8:30 until 9:30 AM. His Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers Donations in his memory may be made to St. Francis Parish Energy Fund, PO Box 609, Dracut, MA 01826.
