David L. Grimshaw
Loving husband, dad, grampa, brother, uncle and friend; 62
David L. Grimshaw, 62, a lifelong Lowell resident, died on September 12, 2013 with many family and friends by his side. Dave lived a full life while he bravely battled Multiple Sclerosis for many years and a recent diagnosis with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Dave was the husband, soul mate, and best friend of Gail B. (Briggs) Grimshaw, for whom he loved and was married to for 37 years.
Born February 3, 1951, in Lowell, he was the son of the late Francis W. and the late Margaret E. (Allen) Grimshaw. He attended Lowell schools and graduated from the Lowell Trade School in 1969. He was a tradesman most of his life before he became disabled. His most cherished title held was that of "Grampa" for his three grandchildren.
Dave was an avid Patriots fan; he enjoyed watching the games with his family and friends. He was a car enthusiast, pizza connoisseur, hat fashionista, and always had a soft spot for dogs. He never let his disability slow him down as he enjoyed speeding on his motorized scooters at his favorite local establishments. Most importantly, he was quite the character. He made it his personal mission to always make everyone he came across with laugh, even making complete strangers feel as if they were longtime friends.
Dave is survived by his loving wife, Gail B. (Briggs) Grimshaw; three children, Kerry Marcotte and her husband Jude Marcotte Jr., Kate Albano and her husband Dominic Albano III, and his son David S. Grimshaw; three grandchildren, Cassandra Johnson, Jocelyn Boland, and Dominic Albano IV.
He is also survived by six siblings and their spouses, his "pseudo twin" brother Kevin Grimshaw, his "baby" sister Deborah and Brian Kilbride, his brother Mark Grimshaw and Tracey, sister Margaret and Brad Merrill, brother Francis Grimshaw and Deborah, and Donna and Joe Davis; his brother-in-laws, Robert Foss, Harry Briggs Jr., John Briggs and wife Carol, and Stephen Briggs; his sister-in-laws, Susan Cummings and her husband Jack, and Sandra Elliot and her husband Jim; his mother-in-law, Dorothea E. Hadley.
Dave had aunts, uncles, many nieces and nephews; some who always held a special place in his heart. He is also survived by many special longtime friends whom he cherished, especially his friend Kevin Donnelly and cousin Sandy Bugler.
He was also the brother of the late Catherine Foss and the son-in-law to the late William Hadley.
