LOWELL – Daniel G. Degan, Sr., 88, a resident of the Centralville section of Lowell, passed away on Sunday evening, April 3, 2016 at the Lowell General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Esther M. (Laird) Degan.
Born in Lowell on September 21, 1927, he was a son of the late William and Marion (Underwood) Degan.
Mr. Degan was educated in Lowell Schools and enlisted with the United States Army in 1946. He served following the end of World War II and remained active through the Korean War being honorably discharged in 1951.
He was a member of the East End Club, the Lowell Lodge of Elks, #87 and the Tyngsboro American Legion, Post 247.
Prior to his retirement he was employed by the Raytheon Corp. in South Lowell. He belonged to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 1505.
He was a former member of the Sacred Heart Parish for many years, but most recently was a member of St. Michael Parish.
Dan is survived by three sons, Daniel G. Degan, Jr. of Lowell, David G. Degan and his wife Kathy of Tyngsboro and Dennis R. Degan and his wife Christine of Lowell; three grandchildren, Lauren and Maxwell Degan of Tyngsboro and Ayden Degan of Lowell; two sisters, Alice McNeil of Beverly and Patricia Rapazza of Lowell; a brother, Richard Degan of Lowell; a brother-in-law, Jack Laird of Dracut; several nieces and nephews.
He was a brother of the late John and William Degan, Marion Charters and Kay McFadden.
