DRACUT - Daniel J. Copley, 66, a resident of Dracut, died Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Massachusetts General Hospital of complications from Guillain-Barre syndrome, of which he was diagnosed in late June. He was the beloved husband of Joan B. (Gannon) Copley, to whom he was married for 43 years.
He was born in Lowell on May 25, 1952, and was a son of the late Russell C. and Edith (Davies) Copley. He was very proud of his Welsh and Irish heritage. Dan received his early education in Lowell schools and was a graduate of Dracut High School.
Prior to his illness, he was employed by Dracut Public Schools in their food service department. He was previously employed for many years by United Liquors of Lawrence.
Dan enjoyed playing cribbage with friends and his summers in Wells, ME. He also enjoyed coaching Dracut Girls Softball, which he did for many years. In his earlier years, he enjoyed boating, and fresh water and deep sea fishing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children, Erin McConologue and her husband Rick of Windham, NH, Kevin B. Copley and his companion Nancy Fleury of Dracut, and Katie McNulty and her husband Patrick of Lowell; a brother, Sean Copley and a sister, Catherine Couillard, both of Dracut; two brothers-in-law, Barry Gannon and his wife Renee and Mike McKenna, all of Lowell; two aunts, Julia Copley of Lowell and Gerry Panessiti of N. Chelmsford; his nieces and nephews, Lisa Longtin, Allison Woods, Bryan Couillard, Darrin Couillard, Sean McKenna, Michaela McKenna, Meghan Gannon, and Barry Gannon, Jr.; and many dear friends and their families.
He was also the brother of the late David Copley, the brother-in-law of the late Nancy (Gannon) McKenna, and the uncle of the late Russell Copley.
ARRANGEMENTS - Relatives and friends are invited to attend Dan's Life Celebration at the MCKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street in Lowell on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday morning at 10:00 AM at St. Rita Parish in Lowell. The family requests that you kindly meet at church. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery in Tewksbury.
