Lowell - Claire (Coutu) Caldwell, a lifelong Lowell resident, beloved wife of the late John E. "Jack" Caldwell who died September 5, 2009, died Friday February 19, 2010. She was 79.
Born in Lowell on February 16, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Marie Eva (Prive) Coutu.
Claire loved country music and dancing, but most of all she was a devoted mother and grandmother who cherished her family.
Survivors include four sons, John E. Caldwell, Jr. of Lowell, Bruce and Terri Caldwell of Brockton, Scott Caldwell and Jonathan Williams of Provincetown, Joseph Caldwell and Marian Rafferty of Arlington; a daughter Sandra and Douglas Downing of Nashua, NH; six grandchildren, John III, Krystena, Tyler, Liam, Aisling, Carrie Ann; and a great grandchild, Cameron; a brother Charles Coutu of NJ; three sisters, Laura Fuller, Gertrude Flaherty both of Lowell, and Alice Kelley of Chelmsford. She was also the mother in law of the late Teri Caldwell, and sister of the late Edmond "Gus" Coutu, Rita Shelton, Arthur Coutu, Leo Coutu, and Robert Coutu.
