Charles Edward "Ed" Girard, Jr., 70, beloved husband of Cathleen M. (Saulnier) Girard, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2012 surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness.
Born in Haverhill on June 23, 1942, he was a son of the late Charles E. Girard and Russell and Eva (Hamel) Jackson.
After graduating from Ipswich High School in 1961, Ed enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Little Rock CLG4 as a radar specialist during the Viet Nam War.
Upon honorable discharge from the Navy he was employed as a digital logic electronic technician at the former L.F.E. Corp. in Wakefield, Dynapert Division of United Shoe Machine Corp. in Beverly and Black and Decker in Beverly. He retired in December of 2008 from U.M.G. Technologies in Danvers.
Ed enjoyed tinkering with cars, was an avid reader and sci-fi movie buff. He also liked watching sports and was a Boston sports fan.
In addition to his loving wife of 45 years, he is survived by his children; Michelle Currie and her husband Joseph of Dracut, MA, Nichole Jalbert of Sanford, ME, Stephen Girard of Plaistow, NH, 9 grandchildren, two brothers; Frank Jackson of Palm Springs, CA, Scott Jackson of Merrit Island, FL, a sister; Louise Goodrow of Skowhegan, ME, several brothers in law and sisters in law, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Russell Jackson.
