Charles H. Everett

April 9, 1932 — August 20, 2013

Charles H. Everett, the beloved husband of Jacqueline R. (Courtemanche) Everett, a Lowell resident, died on Tuesday August 20, 2013 following a brief illness. He was 81.
Charles was born in Lowell on April 9, 1932, a son of the late Edward and Sarah (Billings) Everett.
Charles left home at an early age to enlist in the Navy. Upon completion of his tour he transferred to the Army. He served in the Navy and Army during the Korean War. When he completed his Army enlistment Charles transferred to the Air Force where he served with the rank of Staff Sergeant until his retirement in 1969. He was stationed in many countries, but Japan held a special place in his heart. He assisted in the rebuilding of an orphanage while stationed there. Wherever he was stationed during his military career, Charles was known for organizing and establishing food and toy drives. His family described him as generous and helpful. He was always available to talk with his nieces and nephews when they were troubled. He even allowed them to stay with him and Jacqueline until they were able to sort things out.
Charles had a passion for scratch tickets. The local convenience stores knew all of his favorites.
He was considered loyal, determined, and brave by many that knew him. Charles cherished camping and deep sea fishing with his sons and friends. He enjoyed playing cards and loved the slot machines at Foxwoods Resort. He looked forward to his trips every three months or so with his daughter and son in law.
Upon his retirement from the Air Force he was employee at the former Russell Lumber Company as a truck driver and a yard foreman. He also worked as a driver and mechanic for Marinell Bus Company.
Charles also served with the Korean War Veterans Honor Guard for several years.
Surviving him besides his wife of 58 years, which he described as "love at first sight" are his four children and their spouses, Debbie and Denis Grenier of Lowell, Chuck and Dottie Everett of Lowell, Michael and Michelle Everett of Salem, NH, Ken and Melanie Everett of Lowell; two brothers and a sister in law, Donald and Rosie Everett, James Everett, all of Lowell; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Edward, John, and Thomas Everett, and Rita Parker.
