Charles D. Fitzpatrick … Loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather

LOWELL - Charles D. Fitzpatrick, 86, a resident of the Christian Hill neighborhood in the Centralville section of Lowell, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Catherine E. “Kay” (Webster) Fitzpatrick, to whom he was married on February 4, 1961.

Born in Lowell on November 16, 1937, he was a son of the late Francis X. and M. Edna (Murphy) Fitzpatrick.

Charlie was a graduate of the Sacred Heart School and Keith Academy and earned a B.S. in Plastics Engineering from the Lowell Technological Institute.

He retired after a long career at Lockheed Martin, formerly Sanders Associates of Nashua, NH, where he was a Materials Application Engineer. After retirement he worked as a math tutor in the Lowell school system.

Charlie thoroughly enjoyed time with his kids and grandchildren, especially helping with homework, volunteering for field trips, and smiling with pride through many, many dance recitals, hockey games and little league games. He was also a coach, vice president and treasurer for the Centralville Baseball League.

Charlie and Kay loved to travel and had been to Ireland, Poland, Italy, Canada and many other wonderful places but Hampton Beach was for family vacations with his kids and with cousins when he was younger.

Charlie was a huge fan of all Boston sports, especially hockey, and never missed a televised golf tournament, himself an avid golfer. More than anything Charlie loved all genres of literature, from classics to political thrillers, biographies or his beloved spiritual authors, there was always at least one book on his nightstand.

A longtime member of the Order of Ancient Hibernians he was extremely proud of his Irish heritage and a life-long communicant of St. Michael’s church, he volunteered at CYO and Bingo, taught CCD, and was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Charlie served with the United States Air Force during peacetime receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1962.

In addition to his wife, Charlie leaves four children, Maura Anne Fitzpatrick of Nashua, NH, C. Daniel Fitzpatrick and his partner Lila Nelson of North Conway, NH, Brian Fitzpatrick and his wife Lucy of Lowell, and Stephen Fitzpatrick and his wife Agata of Phnom Pehn, Cambodia; 11 grandchildren, Patrick, Cathryn and Meghan McCarthy and her fiancée Nolan McCoy of Hudson, NH, Annie Ducey and her husband Garrett of Derry, NH, Charles Fitzpatrick of Sailsbury, MA, Anna Louise Fitzpatrick and her partner Zack Messier of Manchester, NH, Colin and Aidan Fitzpatrick of Lowell, MA, Alicja, Jack and Alexander Fitzpatrick of Phnom Pehn, Cambodia; and 4 great grandchildren, Brady Carrol, Jaxon and Sunni Messier and Nelly Fitzpatrick.

He was the grandfather of the late McKenzie Fitzpatrick, brother of the late M. Colleen Matte and M. Linda Beaudry, brother-in-law of the late Cynthia Webster, Valerie Ouellette and Robert Webster, and father-in-law of the late Deborah Fitzpatrick.

His family would like to extend their deepest thanks for the love, support, and caring of his many wonderful neighbors on Christian Hill.
