Charles L. "Chuck" Carignan

Dracut

Charles L. “Chuck” Carignan, age 95, a longtime resident of Dracut died Sunday, July 21, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Theresa G. (Hylan) Carignan, with whom he would have celebrated 75 years of marriage in September. 

He was born in Dracut on February 17, 1929, and was a son of the late Ernest and Leona (Bourque) Carignan. He attended the Oblate Seminary in Bucksport, ME and was a graduate of St. Joseph High School in Lowell. Later in life, he returned to school to earn his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education from Fitchburg State University. 

Prior to his retirement, Chuck was employed for many years as a teacher for Shawsheen Valley Technical High School in Billerica. He then continued teaching as a substitute for Lowell Public Schools, including at the Wang Middle School. 

He was an active longtime parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen Church in Tyngsboro, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion. He was also a member of St. Vincent de Paul and the Knights of Columbus. 

Chuck enjoyed coin collecting, oil painting, swimming, skating and spending time at the beach, especially Drakes Island Beach in Wells, ME. His greatest joy, however, was spending time in the company of his loving wife and family, especially his adoring grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by nine children, Richard Carignan of Rye, NH, Marianne Berube and her husband, Thomas of Dracut, Dianne Norkiewicz and her husband, David of Dracut, Kevin Carignan and his wife, Elizabeth of Dracut, Kathleen MacNeil and her husband, Frederick of Northbridge, Christine Cyr and her husband, Jeffrey of Pelham, NH, Denise Stassis and her husband, John of Thornton, NH, David Carignan of Dracut and Timothy Carignan and his wife, Kim of Westford; son-in-law, Donald McKinnon; twenty grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; four brothers, Fr. Pete Carignan, Wilfred “Butch” Carignan, Donald “Sonny” Carignan and Dennis Carignan; two sisters, Jeannette Doran and Glorianne Radjeski; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by a son, Charles L. Carignan, Jr., a daughter, Donna McKinnon and several brothers and sisters. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Chuck’s Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Thursday, August 8th at 10:00am at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 95 Lakeview Ave., in Tyngsboro. Burial in Richardson Cemetery in Dracut. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Chuck’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1999, Memphis, TN 38101.
