DRACUT - Charles W. Braley, 79, a resident of Dracut, passed away on Sunday Morning, January 8, 2017, at the Lowell General Hospital surrounded by his loving family following a period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of Ann Marie (Quigley) Braley, to whom he was married for 46 years.
Born in Lowell on January 20, 1937, he was a son of the late John W. and Florence (Fritz) Braley.
Mr. Braley was educated in Lowell Schools, including the 10th Street School, the Varnum School and Lowell High School. He left High School prior to graduation to enlist with the United States Army in 1954. He served for 11 years during the "Cold War", with tours of duty in Japan and Germany. He was Honorably Discharged in 1965 with the rank of E-5 and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
Following his service with the Army, he relocated to Lowell where he was employed by Educator Biscuit until their closure. He followed with employments as a chef at the Manning Manse, the Town House Motel of Chelmsford, the Holiday Inn in Tewksbury, and Wingate at Belvidere from which he retired.
Most important to Charles was his family, of whom he was very proud, and he cherished the time spent with them. He especially enjoyed babysitting his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Ann Marie, he is survived by two children, Charles J. Braley of Groton and Carolyn Braley of Dracut; two grandchildren, Molly Braley and Joshua Braley; a daughter-in-law, Bridgett Braley of Dunstable; a sister, Anne Blais of Chelmsford; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Betty Cotterman, and brother-in-law of the late Raymond Quigley.
