Cecile I. Gagnon

August 10, 1923 — February 15, 2025

Dracut

Cecile I. (Hamel) Gagnon, age 101, a recent resident of Northwood Rehabilitation and Health Care Center for past 5 years and before that a longtime resident of Dracut, died Saturday, February 15, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late Albert A. Gagnon, whom predeceased her in 1971.

She was born in Lowell on August 10, 1923 and was the daughter of the late Adele (Theriault) and Joseph Hamel. She worked as an administrative assistant for many years for the Dracut Fire Department.

She spent many hours volunteering for organizations, such as Merrimack Repertory Theatre and Elder Services of Greater Lowell. She was also a member of the N.E. Nippon Association.

Cecile was also an avid gardener, spending hours tending to her flowers. However, her greatest joy was in the company of her large extended family and the countless memories she had with her 21 nieces and nephews when they were young.

She was the sister of the late Maurice, Paul, Albert and Raymond Hamel and Theresa McNally and Estelle Reeves.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews, including Karen Freeman, with whom she resided with for 25 years before becoming a Northwood resident; she was fondly referred to as “Mem” by Julien Freeman, Christine, Kimberly and Jenna Nash and Kara and Brad Reeves; her sister-in-law, Joyce “Beverly” Hamel; as well as many other family and friends.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Northwood Rehabilitation for their compassion and support given to Cecile during her time spent there.

It being Cecile’s wishes, all services will be held privately. Burial to take place in St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cecile’s memory to Catie’s Closet, 28 Loon Hill Road, Dracut, MA 01826.
