Cecile A. (Provencher) Cormier, 81, of Dracut, passed away on Tuesday August 23, 2011 at the Lowell General Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Edmond "Buddy" Cormier, Sr. who died on February 20, 1994.
Cecile was born on January 13, 1930, to the late Edmond and Irene (Patenaude) Provencher in Lowell where she grew up and attended Lowell schools.
Cecile and her late husband, Buddy, were married on September 20, 1952 and resided in the Centralville section of Lowell. After Buddy's death, Cecile moved to Dracut.
As a young adult, Cecile worked as a waitress at the former Waldorf Restaurant located in downtown Lowell and then worked as a cashier at Marie's Variety Store on Lakeview Avenue in Lowell for twenty five years.
Since 1975, Cecile has spent many wonderful summers at her home on Lake Winnisquam at Mallards Landing with her family. Cecile enjoyed playing cribbage, bingo, and going to Foxwoods.
She was currently a communicant of St. Francis Church in Dracut and formerly a parishioner of the former St. Louis de France Church in Lowell.
Cecile held membership in the Centralville Senior Citizens Club and the Lowell and Dracut Senior Centers. She was also a member of the VFW Post 662 Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include a son, Edmond L. Cormier, Jr., of Dracut, with whom she resided; a daughter, Denise L. Fay and her husband, Glenn of Manchester, NH; her grandson, Keith Steckis and her granddaughter Stephanie Steckis both of Manchester, NH; her sister, Laurette Vengren of Dracut; her brother, Roland Provencher of Dracut; several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Lorraine Guillemette and Paul Provencher.
